An unsrem Hochzeitstag bekam ich die Chance Vilnius einen Besuch abzustatten. Tobi musste leider Arbeiten, also packte er mich Kurzerhand mit ins Handgepäck.
Litauen dürften einige nicht wirklich auf dem Schirm haben. Ich zugegebener Maßen als Urlaubsziel auch nicht. Nun, was soll ich sagen?
Vilnius hat mich dafür voll erwischt, mit seiner hauptsächlich barocken Altstadt, die zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe zählt (und das nicht grundlos). Die Altstadt, die durch verschiedenste Baustile geprägt wird, zählt zu einer der größten und best erhaltenden Altstädte Europas. 2009 wurde Vilnius von der Europäischen Union zur Kulturhauptstadt Europas ernannt. Neben barocken Einflüssen, findet man auch Elemente aus Klassizismus, Gotik und Renaissance.
Vilnius wird auch die Stadt der Kirchen genannt, so kann man von fast jedem Standpunkt aus, mindestens 4 prächtige Kirchtürme sehen. Von der Burgruine Gediminas – auf dem gleichnamigen Hügel gelegen – hat man einen wundervollen Blick über die Stadt. Fußkranke können übrigens auch mit einer Seilbahn den kleinen Hügel bewältigen.
Allgemein wirkt die Stadt sehr mediterran, weshalb sie außerdem auch „Rom des Ostens“ genannt wird. Eine Bezeichnung, die ich sehr passend finde.
Fun Fact: Am 01. April 1997 hat sich der Künstler-Stadtteil Uzupis zum Spaß zur unabhängigen Republik Uzupis erklärt. Laut der dortigen Verfassung hat jeder das Recht glücklich oder unglücklich zu sein. Außerdem haben Hunde das Recht, Hunde zu sein.

- Die klassizistische römisch-katholische Sankt Stanislaus Kathedrale
- Das großfürstliche Schloss (befindet sich nach seinem Abriss im 19. Jahrhundert noch im Wiederaufbau)
- Kirchen: Sankt Annen, Bernhadinerkirche und Johanneskirche
- Die Altstadt als Solche
Ausflugsziele
- Der geografische Mittelpunkt Europas, liegt etwa 25km nördlich von Vilnius
- Die Inselburg Trakai aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, liegt etwa 30km südwestlich von Vilnius. Busverbindungen sind halbstündlich vorhanden
Essen, Trinken und Cafés
- Boom Burger – ein schöner, alternativ angehauchter Burgerladen (in dem wir auch essen waren)
- Nobler, aber bezahlbar ist das „Dine“, das uns von einer Kollegin und Einheimischen mehr als ans Herz gelegt wurde.
- Ebensfalls empfohlen wurde uns in der Altstadt, das Café „California“, sowie das Café „In Vino“ wo es neben Kaffee auch Snacks gibt.
- Wer Starbucks mag, kann im Vero Café vorbei schauen und
- die 60er Jahre Liebhaber sollten ins Kalvariju 1, das in einem neugotischen Palast in 60er Jahre Einrichtung inkl Plattenspieler daher kommt.
- Das Café Kavine Uzupis (mit Terrasse zum Fluss) beheimatet im Übrigen das „Parlament“ besagter Republik
- Portugiesisch könnt ihr im „Porto De Gallo“ essen gehen und
- für Reggies gibt es das Vegafé
- Die Franzosen unter Euch, können im Notre Vie vorbei schauen, das recht liebevoll eingerichtet ist.
- kombiniert französisch, litauische Küche findet ihr im Stikliai, eine der Top-Adressen in Vilnius
- Weinliebhaber kommen im Sorento (wo man mit einem Sommelier im Weinkeller Weine verkosten kann, wie auch im La Pergola, einem Gourmetrestaurant, leichter Küche, Meeresfrüchten sowie schöner Terrasse, auf ihre Kosten

Litauische Küche findet ihr im
- Medininkai, mit preisgekrönten Küchenchefs oder im
- Lokys, wobei letzteres auch viele Wildgerichte inkl Bieber auf der Karte stehen, sowie einen Biergarten, wie auch mittelalterlichen Gewölbekeller hat. Wie auch in Riga, gibt es in Vilnius allgemein viele mittelalterliche Restaurants.
- Im Forto Dvaras findet ihr diverse Varianten des litauischen Nationalgerichts Cepelinai
- Bierliebhaber kommen im Avilys auf ihre Kosten, neben Bier gibt es hier nämlich auch Biersuppe, Lachs in Bier, Biereis, Honigbier uÄ.
- Außerdem wäre das Zemaiciai, ebenfalls mit mittelalterlichem Gewölbekeller und viel Fleisch auf der Karte zu nennen
- Preis-Leistungstechnisch seid ihr in der Kette „Cili Kaimas“ gut aufgehoben.
- Wer Jazz mag, sollte Donnerstags ins Neringa.

- Im Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva habt ihr von der Sky Bar aus einen schönen Blick über die Stadt
- Das Woo ist ein beliebter Club mit gemischte Musikauswahl mit guter asiatischer Küche
Sonstiges
Wer ein Bernstein-Spa ausprobieren möchte kann sich eine Bernsteinmassage im Amber Spa gönnen. Außerdem gibt es dort einen „Bernsteinstrand“ für eine Fußreflexmassage.
